Born in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Monica studied graphic design and multimedia at The Art Institute of California – San Diego. She has a background in painting, photography and different disciplines of plastic and visual arts. With diverse media, Monica’s artwork seeks to resignify the elements of the world today to make the viewer aware of the seductive strategies of global capitalism. Her work endeavors to explore and reproduce zen- like states (less is more).

She has exhibited her work in galleries and museums throughout Australia, Germany, Italy, Mexico, New Zeland and the United States. In June 2010, she produced a permanent work of public art for the ruins of the Rüeggisberg Priory in Bern, Switzerland. She has been awarded grants on several occasions from the government of the State of Jalisco. The Jumex Foundation/Collection and MUAC Collection holds some of her work. She has worked on different projects directed by curators such as Patrick Charpenel, Abraham Cruzvillegas, Olga Margarita Dávila and Guillermo Santamarina, to name but a few.

She lives and works in Guadalajara.
